Ministers from Spain, Morocco and Tunisia confirm their assistance to OOWC

Olive Oil World Congress (OOWC), to be held from 26 to 28 June at the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) in Madrid, will bring together the main players in the olive oil and olive grove sector worldwide, with the aim of promoting the exchange of knowledge and the generation of new business relationships.

With just a few days to go before the event, organisational details are already being finalised and it has been confirmed that the inauguration will be attended by Abdelmonem Belati, Tunisia's Minister of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries, and Mohamed Sadiki, Morocco's Minister of Agriculture, Marine Fisheries, Rural Development, Water and Forestry. Their participation demonstrates the interest of these countries in the search for technological solutions to the new challenges currently facing olive growing in the Mediterranean. An invitation to participate has also been extended to the councillors of Spain's main olive-growing communities.

Raúl Compés, director of the International Centre for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies (CIHEAM) in Zaragoza, and Francisco Javier Moreno, vice-president of International Relations of the CSIC, will also be present. In addition, Jaime Lillo, executive director of the International Olive Council (IOC), will be present as a keynote speaker, in charge of opening the OOWC with his speech.

On the other hand, Luis Planas Puchades, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food of the Spanish Government, is expected to close this international event.

These leaders will contribute their experience in implementing policies to develop the sector in a context of change, both in the production phase and in the current market situation. The meeting will also be attended by world operators in the olive oil and olive grove sector, such as Gennaro Sicolo, president of the Confederazione Italiana Agricoltori (CIA), and Abdessalem Loued, chairman of the IOC Advisory Committee.

The entire industry expects the OOWC to boost collaboration between different producing countries and their operators in the sector, fostering innovation and technology. During the congress, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in academic and commercial sessions, as well as networking activities, where they will be able to learn about the latest trends and developments in the industry.
