On March 8, as every year, International Women's Day will be celebrated. This day, recognised by the UN, aims to vindicate women's rights, as well as social and labour equality.
The Olive Oil World Congress (OOWC) wants to give a nod through its social profiles (Twitter, Facebook, Linked-in, Youtube e Instagram) to all women in the olive sector. Thanks to their work, we can enjoy the liquid gold of our gastronomy and one of the fundamental pillars of the Mediterranean diet.
These women are a clear example of dedication and hard work. In the past, they had to be accompanied by a man in order to carry out their work. We have come a long way to get to where we are today, but the journey does not end here.
Women in the olive sector still face significant challenges, such as economic crises, the mechanisation of harvesting work and the lack of employment opportunities. However, there are many women who have managed to overcome them and succeed, for example: Rosa Vañó, commercial director of Castillo de Canena; Lola Sagra, manager of Nobleza del Sur; or Teresa Pérez, manager of Interprofesional del Aceite de Oliva.
Let's keep moving forward to build an equitable olive grove with a strong female presence.
Happy Women's Day to all of you!
