The Olive Oil World Congress (OOWC) has held a new meeting of the Scientific and Planning Committees, where recent progress was reviewed, and the next actions for the 2025–2026 inter-congress cycle were defined.
During the meeting, activities carried out to date were discussed, such as the event organized in the United States and the launch of the competition on new olive oil consumption moments on social media. These actions are part of the OOWC’s roadmap, with the aim of holding the next congress edition in 2026.
Completed Activities and Upcoming Actions
During the meeting, the Secretariat presented the updated activity calendar, which includes both completed actions and those planned for the first half of 2025. Among the most notable was the event "Drops of Health: Olive Oil in the United States," held on March 26 in Washington D.C., in collaboration with the North American Olive Oil Association (NAOOA). This event, focused on communicating the health and culinary benefits of olive oil, brought together professionals from the healthcare sector, importers, producers, and institutional representatives.
This initiative has not only been an important step in promoting olive oil knowledge in the U.S. market, but according to the NAOOA itself, it could also contribute to the advancement of a possible North American olive oil interprofessional organization and to greater cohesion within the sector in that country.
In the coming months, the OOWC will continue its international journey with new actions in Brazil, Brussels, and Spain, with a prominent presence at Expoliva (Jaén), as well as at events in Catalonia, Castilla-La Mancha, and Madrid. Additionally, the next edition of the congress is expected to be officially presented in Portugal during the second half of the year.
Towards OOWC 2026: Venue and Content
Regarding the organization of OOWC 2026, various locations in Portugal were presented, with the country emerging as the host with the backing of its Ministry of Agriculture, although the final decision will be made before the summer period.
Meanwhile, the Scientific Committee is working on designing the congress’s content program, with a forthcoming meeting scheduled for June 3.
